The tail has no protection. Exhaust doesn't go anywhere near it...bombardier demonstrated that the horiz stab would still fly even if it was covered in ice. They tested this by glueing large styrofoam blocks in the shape of ice accumulation to the the stabs and then took it for a spin

Glad their engineering math worked out on that...
