Routes? You wanna know about routes?
Then go to
www.jetcareers.com and look at the home page. Doug has done a great job of spelling out what the career is about and different ways of entering it. You'll see a link called "perspectives" and you'll find my "route" along with quite a few others.
As it says in my profile, I'm a UPS 757/767 Capt based in Ontario, CA.
What would I do different? Not gone to Riddle. Bought a Cessna 150 early on to train and instruct in. Also, I left flying for about a year to chase an ATC job. That didn't help any, I wish I had stuck out the flying job I was in at the time though the reasons for leaving were valid. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say.
By the way, the notion that one should go military just so one can "be an airline pilot" isn't too popular. Especially among those who serve. One should have a high interest in serving the country and be willing to make quite a few sacrifices if one is going to take that route.
