Wow. If they know enough about 121 flying and commercial flying in general that they knew about "type ratings" one could logically assume that they've done some reading of the regs and reading the next paragraph in the book isn't that far fetched.
But I understand the cultural differences amongst the generations. Asking/texting etc vs researching seems to be more and more common place. I've been the recipient of text msgs asking the answer to questions not knowing that the person sending the text was in the middle of a (type rating) oral!!
