But I understand the cultural differences amongst the generations. Asking/texting etc vs researching seems to be more and more common place. I've been the recipient of text msgs asking the answer to questions not knowing that the person sending the text was in the middle of a (type rating) oral!!

Did you assume that the person was asking whether a type rating was required to operate the E-170? Because that's not necessarily what they were asking.

The answer to the question is, yes, Republic's training results in a type rating for the E-170. No type rating is required prior to training.
