"the world" at DCA is the non-terminal parking...aka the parking for the CRJ-200s (and some 700s). Passengers are bused to the world from the terminal in a bus that shouldn't be allowed to fit 50+ passengers. Overall it's a headache for both crew and passengers.

PSA (hopefully soon I can call your airline too) park all 200s and some of the 700s there. Otherwise the 700/900 park at a gate.
They've started to stick 900's at the very north end of the world now.
