I believe fellow pilots to be very capable of evaluating a final product. I also believe us all to be human, and therefore susceptible to science-based psychological phenomena. I posted what I did as a reminder to us all of what pitfalls could ensnare us if we don't actively guard against them.

Overconfidence in one's own decision-making abilities is a trait pilots might just exhibit more than the average bear, despite the training you reference. Nobel-winner Daniel Kahneman discusses lots of interesting data on the subject in "Thinking, Fast and Slow"...I found it very interesting.
