If you're in charge of the direction of a company looking at a huge workforce turnover wouldn't you be interested in a highly structured hiring process that would favor corporate mentality vs organized labor? Many recognize the statement "we don't hire First Officers, we hire future Captains." Are the future Captains hired ones who accept all MEL's as "safe and legal" and fuel loads at face value, or are independent, rational aviators considered?
If I was directing the future of a corporation, I know what personality disorders I'd be screening for.
