No to defend the soft-science(y) Hogan but I think it's a good idea to route out personality disorders in a job that is basically impossible to get fired from. We've all flown with some real 'winners' over the years and I know at least two people here that have almost entires bases bidding 'avoid' who are perfectly capable pilots who just have pi$$ poor attitudes who make life bad for everyone they come into contact with from pilots to passengers... Good luck to all. (I prefer a well made gun to poems and want to be in a rock band, but don't want to be famous and I also do NOT think the world is out to get me and sometimes it is OK to break the rules)

Given what is at stake I am sure HR wants to avoid false positives even at the risk of a few too many false negatives.

Although there's been PLENTY that made it through the HPI and conform to the above as well. "NO system is perfect....."
Although it's been suggested they put in on the back of the process and not the first. But probably not likely to happen. At least not till an empire ends.

If you're in charge of the direction of a company looking at a huge workforce turnover wouldn't you be interested in a highly structured hiring process that would favor corporate mentality vs organized labor? Many recognize the statement "we don't hire First Officers, we hire future Captains." Are the future Captains hired ones who accept all MEL's as "safe and legal" and fuel loads at face value, or are independent, rational aviators considered?
If I was directing the future of a corporation, I know what personality disorders I'd be screening for.

I was lucky. No Hogan, no MMPI etc. Just a sit down with the HR rep and a nice old Captain who put me at ease right away.
The HR lady was a different story. She asked me three times what I did to prepare. Each time I told her the exact same thing. To egg me on further, she then said, "Did you do anything else?" I had no idea what the heck she was after and it suddenly hit me, "Oh, do you mean did I go see C. Cage? NO WAY!" She then frowned and he broke into a huge smile.
He was very complimentary during the background / experience review. He then tossed me nothing but softballs during the professional eval portion of the interview.
I'd never get hired today.
