On first glance it seems pretty innocuous right? OK so I have to wait 4 hours to find out if a trip I put in for was awarded or not. No biggie. Actually...it depends.
Scenario 1) Say the trip I'm on ends Thursday night. I have a JS booked to go home that night. A much nicer trip pops into open time and it ends on Friday. The JS I'll need for the trip home only has one opening. Cool, I'll just book that now in case. Nope...can't have 2 in the system within 24 hours. I wait the 4 hours and get the trip. Great! Only problem is now I recheck and the JS is gone and the flights to get me home don't run on the weekend. Crap!
Scenario 2) I put in for the trip mentioned above. 20 minutes or so later an even better trip pops into open time. As mentioned I can have multiple trades (thanks again guys!) in the system. Unfortunately they have to been in priority order. The new trip is a 4 day with a backend DH so don't even need to worry about the JS. Awesome! The original trip already shows 5 in the que. So do I dump the original trip in hopes of getting the new one? I decide to put in for the new one and see there are 5 folks in the que. After 4 hours I find that I was awarded the first trip so the second one was automatically purged. Would I have been awarded it? Can't say...so I lost out on picking up a stellar trip that would have paid X more hours because I didn't want to chance losing the first one on a gamble.
Scenario 3) AVA. Basically paint scenario 2 the same but without a trade (can't AVA on days you've dropped anything). So I don't dump the first trip that paid 12 hours (18 at 1.5) to pick up the second that paid 24 (36 at 1.5). And since AVA doesn't come out of my bank this is a big deal...
So if I'm trading a 1 day to Montreal for a one day to Austin does the 4 hours waiting really matter. Nope, not really. BUT...if any of the other scenarios are what is driving me to make the trade then the 4 hours is absolutely critical. As they say...timing is everything
