I just got done fighting with my wife and I wasn't in the mood to get into another one, nor cause any issues on my future commutes, but I feel like I got stiffed, as petty as it is. A redeye with work the next day is easier with more space. I know seniority rules for the jumpseat, but I didn't think it did for nonreving.
That's all gate agent discretion as far as I know. Don't remember seeing anything about it in the pass riding guide. You could download their manual and see if they have a requirement. I think it's called the Station Operating Manual. Should be able to find it somewhere in Comply.
