A college degree, what's it worth in this profession? I have 2 of them and they were to check a box on the application. Finance and teaching, while useful in my personal life have never been my profession. How many of our engineers have actually worked in an engineering capacity? FE doesn't count. How many of our college educated pilots found work in their college educated field during furlough? Why is it a surgeon isn't immediately given a scalpel to carve up patients after reading a book or graduating with a degree? Experience.
Professionals do a lot more learning outside a classroom or college than they do in one.
