Quote: Without specifics it's difficult to assess what happened. The way it's supposed to work on international flights is this:

1) Revenue passengers who purchased economy class/Comfort+ tickets board first -- if there aren't enough seats they'll be put in Delta One.

2) Non-revs (except off-line JSA's) board Delta One first -- if there are not enough seats in Delta One they go in Comfort+ then Economy.

On domestic flights it's much easier for a high-value SkyMiles Member to get an upgrade or buy one. Much more difficult on an international flight because the product is so much better.

I see no problem with this system and don't think anybody who purchased the cheapest ticket on Priceline should get a First Class seat ahead of any employee. Obviously they'll get on the flight ahead of any non-rev, but First Class? Nope.
I am not sure what the original poster is trying to discuss. Oversales or upgrades. They are different animals. If coach is oversold the agent is supposed to upgrade passengers to business based on their status. The cheap ticket clampets don't go upfront. If coach is oversold the only place a nonrev should get on is business assuming there are still business seats left after accommodating all revenue passengers.
