Default International Upgrades?

Looking at recent SYD-LAX flights......Many upgrades to coach pax, ahead of non-revs.

Is this the new norm of treating NR like crap like they're doing domestically?

When did this start? Let me guess, when they gave us 2 passes for being so "good"!

Why does Delta hate it's employees so much?

Paying passengers who qualify for upgrade have always gone ahead of non revs.

If you're talking about upgrading the number of coach pax by which it was oversold, they've been doing that for at least 10 years.

Ummm... You've got to be kidding. Are you really complaining about a PAYING passenger upgrading before a non rev passenger? You do know that without those passengers, you wouldn't have a job, right?

Without specifics it's difficult to assess what happened. The way it's supposed to work on international flights is this:

1) Revenue passengers who purchased economy class/Comfort+ tickets board first -- if there aren't enough seats they'll be put in Delta One.

2) Non-revs (except off-line JSA's) board Delta One first -- if there are not enough seats in Delta One they go in Comfort+ then Economy.

On domestic flights it's much easier for a high-value SkyMiles Member to get an upgrade or buy one. Much more difficult on an international flight because the product is so much better.

I see no problem with this system and don't think anybody who purchased the cheapest ticket on Priceline should get a First Class seat ahead of any employee. Obviously they'll get on the flight ahead of any non-rev, but First Class? Nope.

I am not sure what the original poster is trying to discuss. Oversales or upgrades. They are different animals. If coach is oversold the agent is supposed to upgrade passengers to business based on their status. The cheap ticket clampets don't go upfront. If coach is oversold the only place a nonrev should get on is business assuming there are still business seats left after accommodating all revenue passengers.

Thanks for the condescending replies Sailing and Elliott and Cycled....

Just so YOU don't get left behind in the future.....

SYD-LAX is upgrading coach fares to First just because they can, not anything to do with oversold, so stick that in your condescending pie holes.

Look at the airport standby list for tonight's flight....About 50 upgrade requests ALL who would go AHEAD of NR. The list looks like a domestic flight with 100 upgrades for a jet with 12 First class seats.

Looks like upgrades are going AHEAD of PSUP too! Get you some of THAT!

Non-revs are being treated like lepers these days!

UPCW is the code for medallion skyteam members who are requesting an upgrade from Economy to Comfort Plus+. The UP2A are Diamond medallions using one of their 4 yearly global upgrade certificates to upgrade to Business class. There's 12 real upgrades, that's it. Diamond Medallions can also use one of their global upgrade certificates on someone that's traveling with them.
