To expand on my job hunt before taking the PC-12 gig....
I had interviewed with a large 135 on-demand operator, but was given TBNT. They had concerns about my lack of recency- naturally- so it wasn't a huge surprise, but a great experience to go through an intense hiring process.
I was offered a gig to fly a C208 and C402 for a cargo outfit. 4 to 5 days per week. $85k. But the idea of flying single pilot at night on steam gauges (with a Garmin GPS unit) over mountainous terrain wasn't very appealing. That was a tough one to pass since the money and schedule was good. Put the kids to bed, go fly, drop them off at school, sleep, pick them up, etc. Weekends and holidays off. Solid 80 hours per month. But I needed less piston and more turbine time.
Ended up taking this PC-12 gig. Crew environment, turbine, glass, Scheduled ops. Simple and fun airplane, great schedule. Turbine PIC albeit single engine.
I could've (and maybe should've) gone the regional route sooner. But for me, the PC-12 has been a great segway back into the deep end. So now, I look forward in 2017 to a regional... possibly street captain gig or AA wholly owned. It's tough with my kids in a great school so I will probably commute. Come May/June, my wife and I could reconsider a move. Her job can be virtual based.
I've had my apps in at just about every major/lcc and continuously update. I certainly don't expect calls, but perhaps once I check that 121 box as a recent accomplishment, maybe that will trigger something.
All I can say to those looking to get back in is apply everywhere you think you'd want to go. You will get bites and TBNTs. But the odds are in your favor during this hiring boom.
