After the early 2015 hire went back to his previous Pt.91 employer before completion of IOE I was concerned there would be a bias going forward against bizav pilots...that does not appear to have been the case as a good number were hired in 2016.

As CL300 said, you just gotta make a compelling argument to them during the interview that yes, you know what you are getting yourself into going from bizav to night freight and that as a bizav pilot you are highly adaptable and flexible dealing with all that "Hey we wanna go to HPN not TEB, no let's go to PBI instead, we'll still have a Suburban available at the FBO right?" stuff you already deal with.
