I agree with the takeoff clearance, but not going into position. I get extremely irritated when guys do that at night and just sit there flashing everyone in line. I usually turn mine on a little down the runway after we've been rolling a few seconds.
Your passengers deserve better than your cavalier attitude with respect to their safety. Any Captain who doesn't select strobes on when in position and hold is a lousy one. It's no surprise that the only time I ever get comments is at CLT from the tools at the dysfunctional AA family.
