idk, my own rule of thumb is if it's gonna come down to fighting for a jumpseat, pay attention and don't leave the general vicinity of the podium, I think a lot of gates agents couldn't care less about the rules especially on the express side. They'll give it away in a heartbeat to someone else who is just as eager standing around if you look away for just that long.
