Av8er1550 didn't specify if his/her flight in question was a 9E flight or mainline. I was operating under the assumption it was his/her company metal so I offered a reason as to why he/she was scolded.
It wouldn't surprise me if the gate agents got our pilot uniforms confused and assumed he/she was mainline and then used my scenario as the basis for his/her scolding.
