If you are on reserve, what difference does it make if you get the extra 4.5 hours? You are working for 72 hours until you go over. Have you ever broken guarantee on reserve?

Not to point out the obvious, but most airlines do not have trip averaging. Most airlines, worst regional up to double breasted Delta, have block-or-better by leg...not trip averaging.
You are confused on what trip averaging is.

Trip averaging is you have a two day trip that flys 6hrs on day one and 2hrs on day two. Trip pays 9hrs because it's averaged to 4.5 per day. It doesn't pay 6hrs plus 4.5 for 10.5 credit. That's averaging and just like us most have it save FedEx

You are correct though that our contract does not pay block or better on a leg by leg basis which is unheard of. However you have been paid block or better on a leg by leg basis since 2010 if you haven't noticed. It is the status quo so they cannot change it in negotiations and I'd expect that language to be added in the next agreement.
