You would be surprised how many guys we have who will take the jumpseat over their seat in the back. Saw one do it when we already had a jumpseater listed for the jumpseat.
I'll give up my seat and sit in the jumpseat for an OAL jumpseater, pilot or FA.

That's just wrong taking a jumpseat from a jumpseat we when you are positive space...and people still wonder. It's more than the gate agents in ATL causing the grief.

What does this mean 'not allowed to drink'? Is he not 21?

Never ever do this. When you take the Jumpseat you can screw a jumoseater trying to commute. They are supposed to have a seat for you. If they need to ask for volunteers then that's what you kindly ask them to do but will not be taking the Jumpseat.

Not directed at you personally just reiterating something so important.

This. We need to take care of our own. I had an AA FA take the FA jump seat so that I could get on. I hope we're extending the same professional courtesy. To AA crews I tip my hat.

Unless that means a paying pax just got your seat in the back for an oversold flight and you just took the Jumpseat from an off-line guy that would've otherwise had a ride home/work.

I think that's what he was saying. If it meant getting a jump seating flight attendant on or another non-rev without cockpit privileges then he'd do it. I've had this situation happen. I had the last seat in the cabin and an OAL flight attendant was trying to commute home. If I would have taken my seat in the back she wouldn't have made it home so I sat up front so she could get the last seat in back. Just need to be 100% certain they send the non-rev down and not some other last minute passenger.
