From an FAA perspective, rest can't be extended. However, from an FAA perspective, you could restart your 10 hours rest if you notify yourself 10 hours prior to the report time of the trip.
Where did you get that? I'm honestly asking, I don't think you'd have a leg to stand on if you told them you couldn't come in because you self notified at 2am.
