Capacity management? Just guessing, but plenty of reports recently pointing to major airlines aiming to increase RASM by cutting capacity.
Indefinite deferrals on 65 new guppy's, among others, must've had a serious impact on hiring. Signing an agreement with Air Wisconsin for the same number of 50-seat RJs was, textbook Kirby, and quite telling of the new strategy. Newly acquired CFO Levy and his ex-Allegiant cohorts have also left their mark with a myriad of cost eliminating initiatives, to include cutting management overhead (400?), canvassing the used market for replacement aircraft, etc.
Just speculating, but looking at the new 'economy class' (designed to fend off ULCC expansion), Oscar's team is focused on ensuring long term, sustainable profitability, whatever the cost. Cost/capacity discipline will likely be the drivers going forward.
