A 3:30 hour drive will take less time than a 1 leg commute in almost every instance, although that is a long drive.
Personally, I would rather drive to base than to sit in my home airport for an hour, then fly for 45 mins, just to sit in base for 4 hours before my show time.
But, it is up to you. You can change your base bid pretty quickly, so you have some time to decide. Reserve time in CLT is falling. With 25 upgrades a month, it won't be long until reserve is just a few months.
All of this. Personally the way I looked at it was I wanted shortest reserve with fastest path to Rd1 and a decent commute so that made Anywhwre but TYS/ CLT the best fit for me. I want CLT and the way things are going I should be able to have it by the end of the year possibly the middle of fall to be a line holder. Don't live the reserve life if you don't have to
