What's the proper way to get listed as an OMC/jumpseater for an international flight? Go to the ticket counter? I know I need to get listed early for customs purposes, is 2 hours enough?
(Yes I know I can't ride in the flight deck).
We have id90 access and if we take UAL, I will get a zed for my wife... but I don't think I can make a listing for myself unless I want to pay the zed fare.
For the return flight, are there any tricks when it comes to the stations so they know how to deal with the jumpseater?
Finally, should there be seats open, is there any realistic shot at a business seat for either of us?
I always list right at the gate or any customer service kiosk. Never had a problem with United. Virtually the same as listing for a domestic flight.
As for return stations, it's hit or miss. If that station gets a lot of jumpseating traffic, they will usually know how to list you. You have to list at the checkin counter. I've never had a problem, sometimes it takes a little longer for them to figure it out. Worst case scenario if they deny you listing, you can buy a ZED.
United is usually the best as far as getting open seats up front, but again it's always upto the crew.
