Yeah I'm sure those Asia routes for HA yield a lot more money than anything in Europe. A merger with HA would be murder for B6 pilots. HA has 600 pilots with "career expectations" of being wide body captains. B6 pilots, not so much.
It's not so much about the airplanes they have currently. They already have a maintenance program, training program, spare parts, etc. Buying more airplanes would not be a problem.
