Your logbook is really for your reference in compliance with the flight time recording requirements. If you want to be nit-picky, 14CFR61 does say aircraft TYPE. Therefore, your type designation is technically correct. I have seen peoples logbooks over the years and have seen all versions of any "aircraft designation" you can imagine! To each his own. Nobody is going to grade your logbook. (I think some prefer to log CR9 or CR7 or CRJ just to deferentiate between models.) Just as I have seen, SF-340, SF3, Saab, S340B, etc. etc...
