Delta is a strange animal. I personally have seen some great, and some truly awful people go there. It seems they have a prejudicial system of turning away those of us who have dedicated decades to their bottom line, all in favor of (more recently) some questionable candidates, none of whom had PIC time in anything but a Piper.
I think they have already outrun their coverage in that there will be a significant dearth of quality pilots soon; the overlooked ones having moved on to LCCs, other legacies, or overseas employers in the next few years.
Judging by the have-a-pulse-get-hired 'pilots' the regionals have been aquiring in the last few years, DL may find themselves up shh* creek sooner than later. Anecdotal evidence pointing to just a few thousand apps on file. Just my opinion. Cheers--
