Sorry that I jumped down your throat, it has been a really long year in the ATC world. The outage was caused by a newer type equipment, (Really the start of NEXGEN, before the FAA started calling it that), the equipment is replacing our old communication lines, taking it from a analog line to digital or broadband. I believe it failed because the FAA put cost over safety, not building all the fail safes that the analog had, partly due to cost, but also because the agency is not having controllers assist in designing any of the needs for this new technology. That’s right at this point NEXGEN is being designed by supervisor’s and engineers, not the folks who actually use any of the equipment. The users, you all, should be asking about NOW-GEN and what they are doing before we jump down that NEX-GEN road.
