In a month where a pilot is in training, but not yet converted, does this mean that, if said pilot would have been awarded/eligible for a GS/IA, that pilot would be credited the credit for said award at his/her existing category?

Does a pilot should put on a blanket WS/GS while in training?

This just seemed a little confusing to me, not sure if anyone else has had experience with this in the past.
Reread this part:
may (if not converted to his new category) be awarded/assigned a white slip, GS, or IA that is scheduled to release PRIOR to commencement of such training.
