To be fair, at least one out of five F/O's I fly with do not regularly check final before we enter the runway, but they are religious about checking the ND for the proper runway. That says a lot...magenta line.
So for all you know, he could have simply been an old complacent geezer and "magenta line" has NOTHING to do with it?
I'm NOT making a case for "magenta line", your post just seemed to be a broad generalization that has really zero bearing on that specifically.
