I wish! But on second thought, missing that prolly kept me out of jail.

I won't call out the airline by name but they have ugly paint and taxi fast!

To be fair, at least one out of five F/O's I fly with do not regularly check final before we enter the runway, but they are religious about checking the ND for the proper runway. That says a lot...magenta line.

I did talk to the tower via phone to discuss the runway incursion. Incredibly, they did not consider it a runway incursion, because the 73 was cleared onto the runway, even though we were on short final and cleared to land.

At that time, at least, the definition of runway incursion did not include controller error. Just as always though, the buck stops with the PIC, and the need to see and avoid.

So for all you know, he could have simply been an old complacent geezer and "magenta line" has NOTHING to do with it?

I'm NOT making a case for "magenta line", your post just seemed to be a broad generalization that has really zero bearing on that specifically.

A few years ago a NetJets hit a glider at 17,000 feet. They glider pilot turned off the transponder (he had it on, as he was above FL180 earlier) to save battery power. Everyone lived (the glider guy had a chute on and bailed out). Both airframes were destroyed.

The reference the magenta line has more to do with operating practice than age. Although in this case, it was the right side of the aircraft looking out on final. So, most FO's at that time were not old geezers.

Sorry if you took it personally.

Nope, didn't take it personal.

Doesn't change the FACT that you made a broad brush analysis.

Sorry if you took that personal.
