I'm NOT making a case for "magenta line", your post just seemed to be a broad generalization that has really zero bearing on that specifically.
The reference the magenta line has more to do with operating practice than age. Although in this case, it was the right side of the aircraft looking out on final. So, most FO's at that time were not old geezers.
