I was jumpseating home a few days ago and wanted by the gate probably about 2 hours before departure time. When the gate agent opened the flight, I asked for the jumpseat, etc. She stated that another mainline pilot had it reserved already. I was the only and first one at the flight , so this surprised me. This was on a Republic flight.
When the other pilot showed up, he said he had another gate agent list him about 5 hours earlier. I have never heard of this, but whatever.
Is this the way it works and if so, is it that way for all the connection carriers, Endeavor, Skywest, etc?

Have you ever gone up to the gate and found it to be an absolute charlie fox? I have, and have walked over to one of the service counters to have them list me (ORD come to mind). And to the person that said he would "have words" with this pilot just trying to get home GMAFB.
