Back during the merger when they were migrating the NWA folks to DBMS, they did it fleet by fleet. The DC-9 was the last fleet to go, which left us DTW-ATL commuters unable to reserve the jump seat and at a competitive disadvantage. I got in the habit of trying to find an open jumpseat and an agent to list me on it before heading off on my last turn. That way I knew I was first on the list of walk ups when I got back from said turn. Seemed perfectly reasonable to me until I got a call from the DTW CPO telling me it wasn’t and it would be in my best interest to stop doing it if I wanted to maintain my jumpseat privileges.

Realize that’s an apples to oranges story, but just a reminder to make sure you have jumpseat policy fully understood before you start trying to find creative ways to game the system.

I don’t commute anymore, but just thought I’d share that experience.
