From NYC Council 5 update today.
Hiring Plan
Management has reportedly reevaluated their pilot manpower requirements for summer 2018 and 2019 and have decided to spool up pilot training and hiring. We are reluctant to raise our pilots’ expectations as previous estimates have fluctuated substantially, but here is the latest information:
The company is planning additional near-term vacancy bids and four new-hire classes for the rest of 2017. The first class is planned for 11/13/17 and would include 23 returning 'furloughees' in a class of approximately 75 total pilots. 3 more new-hire classes of approximately 50 pilots are planned for 2017.
According to senior management, based on their imminent acquisition of 30-40 used A319s & A320s they would need to hire an average 60/pilots per month or nearly 2,000 pilots over next 32 months based on their current 2019 block hour projection. This will require restarting interviewing pilots in December.
Please keep in mind of course, that this is subject to change and seems to do so often as the UA long term planning department meets daily.
