I suppose I could have been more clear. A pilot recommendation is not required in order for an internal applicant to get an interview. Once he gets to the interview, he's on his own to stand or fall, and pilot recommendations certainly won't hurt. I know of many internal hires, and all had pilot recommendations, so I can't really testify that one can be hired without one.


An external hire requires pilot recommendations to even begin to work through the hoops for an interview. Internal applicants need only meet the published minimum qualifications, i.e., hours, etc. Internal applicants will need the recommendation of their current manager.
