The release is clearer... do not call gatekeeper, just go to the gate you received during in-range call. (Paraphrasing here, but it’s on the release)
I’ve only seen once where we got to the gate and it was occupied, but I’m not sure if that was before the new system was in place or after. So from now on, no more gatekeeper calls. If we get to a gate and it’s full, I’ll call ops and let them handle it.

Well, not exactly. It's really unclear what they meant in the memo. It says not to call for a gate assignment, but does that mean not to call for gate confirmation for what you got over ACARS? Also, it clearly says not to call Special Assist about anything routine, but that doesn't mean Gatekeeper.
