You can
do whichever option you choose. As long as you're able to receive the phone call and be in ops when required, no one cares what you do. I've jumped into reserve plenty of times, but only when all the variables were in my favor.
Low on the leveling list, nothing in open time, FX jumpseat booked with a couple of back-up non-stop pax flights that get you there in time and no serious weather issues on either end? I'd come in that morning if whatever I was gaining by staying home was worth the gamble.
