Sorry that the trhead got a bit off track, but I have one more response about FSS. It is not only a problem with pre-flight briefings, but an issue of trying to pick up clearances at smaller back country airports. I realize that most airlines do not have to deal with this, but I have waited 30 minutes or more to get to talk to a person in my area that could get me a clearance. 1 800 wx brief used to get you a local briefer. A month ago I called from upstate new york and got a controller in Prescott, AZ who proceeded to infrom me where he was and that he couldn't help me because he didn't even have the number for Boston Center.
