I agree with this assessment. Some people on the ASA MEC were making a bunch of money and making it in ways that violated ALPA policies.
Frankly, I’ve used both PBS and line bidding. Really, what matters most is the contract language and who runs the programs. I personally have preferred PBS as it gives me more options as a senior pilot and this industry is supposed to be about seniority.
Having said that, I don’t think it’s an issue that should have held up merging. Either system we picked we would have survived and everyone would complain no matter which one we chose.
