Easy drive is pretty subjective. I was based in SFO for 18 years. Short of living in Burlingame, there was no such thing as an easy drive. I'm in Pennsylvania, just across the Delaware River from New Jersey. I'm 55 minutes away from Newark Airport and 1 hour from Manhattan. Housing prices in PA are about half of what you'd pay in Jersey, and state taxes are very low. When we made the decision to bail from California, we looked EVERYWHERE around EWR for a place that balanced proximity, cost, and quality of life. As much as I'd enjoy a 15 minute drive to the airport, the cost to live in NJ was far too high for me.
