I've been a pilot, I've been a business exec...and I laughed out loud reading this thread.
Your suit cannot get you hired - but your attire can definitely get you rejected. More important than the color is the condition of the clothes: clean and ironed. (I would not trust the hot shower routine.) If you need to fly in the night before, I would recommend taking the shirt to a dry cleaner to be pressed and folded. You can then take it out and put it on without a problem. Poly/wool suits travel pretty well - but take it out and make sure it isn't wrinkled. And do pay attention to your shoes. Wear them when you fly down, and let the airport shoeshine guys give them the treatment.
