So for those going to interviews don't let them sell you on this idea of "oh you'll work 7/10 and get standby at home days," this is no longer the case.
You left out some details that are worth mentioning.
- Only one crew per base will be utilized unless more are needed.
- 8/6 pilots will be used before 10/5 pilots.
- This applies to "In Base" crews. If you're on the road then its business as usual.
As an 8/6 pilot here it's definitely a change that initially hasn't gone over well with the pilot group because it literally happened over night.
Now that it has digested a bit, lets look at the big picture.
We're hiring a lot of pilots that will eventually lead to a more stable schedule and hopefully alleviate the need for standby at FBO.
Operationally it does makes sense. Our stby at home rules are very lenient and our recovery time frame can exceed 6 hours. Our trips are usually scheduled a few days in advance and rarely do we have pop up trips that we get called to fly during a stby at home day. We do not do charter so the need to keep a crew/plane at the ready isn't needed.
Recently we've needed faster recovery options due to aircraft breaking and crew illness. I'm optimistic that despite this change we're still worth considering. Morale here has gone up a lot with 8/6 and the recent pay raise.
