My post was about fuel burn, not overall cost.
That aside, presumably there wouldn't be any misconnects if you arrive between 15 and 5 minutes prior to the scheduled ON time.
I agree with what you say about this being more useful at the gate restricted airports, but those same airports are where you're likelier to get caught in protracted vectoring and assigned speeds, which would increase the risk when cutting it close.
I wonder if the window will always be 15 to 5 prior, or that's just a typical example.
