Hawaiian has officially announced that they will be adding the Boeing 787-9, powered by fuel-efficient GEnx engines, to their fleet. The first Dreamliner is expected to arrive in early 2021. They have placed a firm order for 10 787-9 aircraft, with purchase rights for an additional 10 planes.

This ends a competitive process between two great aircraft types: the Airbus 330-900 and the Boeing 787-9. Looking at aircraft capability, passenger experience, fleet complexity and total lifetime cost of ownership. The Dreamliner came out on top.

This aircraft will combine superior guest comfort with fantastic operational performance. It will allow Hawaiian to continue modernizing their fleet into the next decade and expand within current their route network with new destinations in the Asia/Pacific region and possibly Europe.
