A320 series, particularly the IAE series can take a long time to spool up to a usable operating range. They often don't spool evenly and you have to wait until they are matched somewhat. Then there is the fact that if the aircraft is heavy it is not going to accelerate like a Lear Jet. The 321 is a runway pig.
The 321 is a pig period. A good looking pig thou. I remember CLT-LAX trips, by the time we were light enough for FL390 it was time to start descent. Way too much weight on those wings. High V Speeds, especially DEN in summer.
