I disagree with the advice to ask for 145. Get the 175, go through training, pocket the type and the HUGE (months) amount of paid time off built into the 175 training footprint, then turn around and do the same thing on the 145 (much less time, a week or two) when they displace you.
That's not a bad way to look at it. However he would be leaving 5k on the table. But it may be worth it for an extra type.
