I would suspect that they cross link interest expressed by the Eventbrite registration with their apps that are on file. It appears to be a growing method of "prescreening" numerous applicants without actually costing the company $ for travel and other expenses for a formal interview. Quick and easy to eliminate the obvious outliers in the application process.
