They FRZ the trip until you answer yes or no on RAT
In his case it wouldn't. Trip pays 58 and change and the 25% override on that is 14.5 hours of extra pay x $160 = $2320 of additional compensation he would turn down hoping that Crew Scheds doesn't use him for a whipping boy for the next 10 days.
They haven't frozen his trip. When he hit "acknowledge" on his crew notifications he "accepted" the trip. If you read the 3 crew notifications he was removed, put in SUB, and then subsequently assigned the RAT trip. I've had the same scenario and I didn't do anything except hit the "acknowledge" button.
Now having said that, I do have one point of contention with what I call malicious code used on our web site concerning crew notifications. When you recieve a crew notification and click on it, you cannot do anything else on the website until you hit "acknowledge." Even if you log off the website and log back in, you will be taken immediately to the "acknowledge" screen. You can't look at the trip, you can't do anything. You are held hostage until you hit "acknowledge." I have discussed this with crew scheduling and ACP's and while the crew scheds supervisor agreed with me, nothing has been done. If you click on "acknowledge" you technically have accepted the trip in accordance with the CBA. I had this happen once on a SUB assignment when I wasn't even eligible for a SUB trip (I had been released for the day) and I had to get the duty officer and the union to resolve it. The crew scheds gal kept reciting chapter and verse of the CBA to me since I hit the "acknowledge" button.
