And I hate to burst the bubble of people who think the military is infallible, there are some people in the military who don't "deserve" it. The fact is, if you can get through basic training, no matter how worthless of a human you are, you are almost virtually guaranteed a retirement.
CBreezy, I assume you're a military retiree since you type with authority on the topic. I am a 22 year veteran drawing retirement pay. I normally never bring up my past employment unless someone asks, but your argument is full of gaping holes in regard to military service. I assure you, your "almost virtually guaranteed a retirement" statement is completely inaccurate. It's 20 years of active service minimum to qualify for any retirement bennies. 19 years, 11 months, 3 weeks of service gets you zero retirement. There is not sliding scale and there is never a guarantee of a retirement. Otherwise everyone would do a 4 year military stint and then leave. There are exceptions for medical retirements. And there are VA disability benefits as well, but they are not retirement benefits. I don't have time to start on your inaccuracies of the education benefits. It's Father's Day, I'm off work today, and my family is taking me out. Happy Father's Day to all the Daddys out there, especially those that are working, military and civilian!
